Emma’s plan for continued excellence in our schools

Emma has been a parent, teacher, administrator and community leader in Arlington for 31 years. Since arriving here as a high school immigrant without her parents, she has shown commitment to educational excellence and equity.

Educational Excellence

GOAL: All students will receive the highest quality education.

• Prepare every student to succeed at the university level and in a technologically-driven global workforce.
• Expand professional opportunities for Arlington educators through university partnerships and other professional development opportunities.
• Increase the numbers of students who will graduate with foreign language proficiency and in-depth understanding of our multi-cultural world.

Caring School Community

GOAL: Schools are student centered.

• Ensure an environment which is safe, healthy, challenging, and engaging for all students.
• Expand effective communication among counselors, families and other caring adults to create an inclusive support network for all students.
• Develop leadership skills and expand school involvement of all families so they are able to become more engaged in their child’s education.
• Develop and enhance partnerships with universities and community organizations to increase student support with caring adults into their lives.

Educational Facilities

GOAL: Equitably allocate the use of our schools in accordance with sound educational principles and community participation.

• Ensure that the community is informed and included in the planning and decision-making on the future of educational facilities and school boundaries.
• Improve fiscal accountability for educational facilities.

GOAL: Provide greater community access to school facilities.

• Expand policies allowing Arlington residents to use buildings during non-school hours.
• Ensure a coordinated process for the School Board and County Board to use in decisions about facilities and resources.
